CMO -Supernatural is an amazing show that keeps the audience glued to the TV.There is no question, we just wanted to let you know that you do an amazing job, as Lucifer, in the Fifth Season and we can't wait to see what happens in season six!
MP -Thanks. I'm partial to old 'Lucy' myself.
CMO -How do you know when a "part" or "role" for an upcoming project is right for you?
MP -That's an interesting question because I don't know that I've ever done anything that's 'right' for me in the sense that it's just my personality coming straight at you on the screen (Thank Godsince I've played wife-beaters...murderers and, of course, the Devil himself).But if I define 'right' slightly differently I can say this: I know something is 'right' for me if it presents a problem I'm enthusiastic about solving.For Lucifer and even Jacob, it's about making archetypal characters accessible.For Paul from Dexter, it's about making a self-centered ass sympathetic to me (since I have to live with the character and like him).How do you do that? (Shop talk) Find the human thing...that basic thing that anyone can relate to.For Lucifer, its betrayal and revenge.For Jacob, correcting a mistake and passing the torch. For Paul, reuniting the family.That's the challenge...and finding a way to meet it makes it 'right'.
CMO -When you're not working, what do you do to unwind?
MP -I read. Mostly American history, but also plays and novels. I also like to go to the boxing gym...hit the bag...jump some rope...that blows off a lot of steam.And...I have a new found love for Brazilian JiuJitsu. I'm only a white belt and have only been able (because of my crazy schedule) to train sporadically, but I dig it. Rolling with someone works off a lot of stress
CMO -Is there anyone you would really like to work with in the near future? Directors, Actors, and Actresses?
MP -I would love to work with Danny Boyle, P.T. Anderson and Frank Darabont.The actors and actresses I would love to work with are legion.But it's the greats I grew up watching that I hope most of all to do something with: Pacino.DeNiro.Duvall.Streep.
