"Get Over It"
Nervously standing on stage, with hundreds of vacationers intently
watching, the lights dim and the music starts; my mother and I begin
singing "I turn on the tube and what do I see. A whole lotta people
cryin' don't blame me..." We quickly turn to each other and with only
one look, we know what the other is thinking. Why did we do this? Before
we know it, the chorus hits, "Get over it! Get over it! All this whinin'
and cryin' and pitchin' a fit..." and the only people in the room at
that moment are my mother and me. Our voices join together harmoniously,
and without realizing it, we rock the house with an unforgettable
karaoke performance.
Unvarying, sheltering, supportive... these are all words which describe
my mother. Most importantly however, she taught me early on that life is
not always going to be easy. There will be moments where I will feel
frightened and nervous, where all eyes are on me. On the stage of life,
these moments will be opportunities to cease and make significant.
Without my mother, I would not be the woman I am today.
